Residents’ attitudes, perceptions and the development of positive tourism behaviours amid COVID -19

Local people’s pro-tourism behavioural intention plays an important role in determining the sustainability and success of a tourism destination. A semi-structured questionnaire was randomly administered to residents aged 18 years above Botswana’s two premier centres (Maun Kasane). These exotic areas were chosen this study ensure enrichment literature through sharing lived experiences critical decision-making by people face impending disaster (i.e. COVID-19) threatening their existence. The Theory Reasoned Action (TRA) used provide better understanding linking residents’ attitudes supporting or opposing development COVID-19. Overall, majority (67.5%, p = 0.015) respondents indicated that they are willing accept some inconvenience as long benefit from industry. Also, most (84.4% (p 0.034)) welcome tourists because contribution bring economy area. Thus, positive attitude towards locals will likely lead more behaviour host communities. recommends that, utmost importance, key stakeholders industry including policymakers planners should devise implement strategies geared positively influencing local communities development. results assist government other mitigating sustain guide future operations following socioeconomic devastations COVID-19 pandemic.
